Porsche 356 aluminium coupe

The first Roadster prototype was developed to create an alloy coupe in 1948, and it was a successful move. In contrast to the Porsche Number 1, the engine was now moved behind the rear axle, as with the Volkswagen, to create space for two small emergency seats or kid space.

Only around 50 examples of the 356 aluminium coupe were produced between 1949 and 1951 in the Austrian town of Gmund, and then provisional production lines were set up in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. In 1951 the aluminium coupe's manufactured in Gmund became the basis for Porsche's entry into the world of automotive racing.

NASA Puffin

The puffin is an airplane concept created by NASA aerospace engineer Mark Moore. The vehicle is
designed for personal flight and utilizes an electric engine. The airplane would be 3.7m long with a
4.4m wingspan and take of and land from a vertical position.

The user would essentially standup in the plane and be able to fly with their head poking out through the glass tip of the plane. The plane's tail splits into four legs that support it during take off and landings until it closes during flight.  Because the vehicle uses an electric engine it would have no emissions, presenting an environmentally friendly flying option for a single user.

This is further amplified by the plane's light weight of 136kg and battery weight of 45kg. Moor estimates that the plane could fly in the air at around 241 km/h with a battery range of 80km. While it is just an idea now, you may see something similar in the skis soon.

Celsius X VI II

Celsius is a company determined to use the most innovative watchmaking designs to power a cellphone. It's not entirely clear whether this first iteration, called Celsius X VI II, will be completely powered by its sophisticated Tourbillon movement, but at least the clock on the front will stay wound using this intricate technology:
"Based on complex micromechanics, this innovation has its name — "Remontage Papillon" (butterfly rewinding) — spelled out on the top wing. Its presence has much to do with making this creation a favourite among enlightened enthusiasts. This ultimate appeal is an asset that opens up new horizons, as Celsius X VI II begins to explore mechanical functions that will revolutionise the world of communications, things never before seen or heard that in the future will become a major sector of the prestige market."

ARM guy: 50 tablet computers coming out in 2010

This is going to be like the netbooksplosion that happened after the EeePC hit. Roy Chen, a big man at ARM, said at a press meeting that they expect perhaps 50 tablet computers to be made available worldwide in 2010.

Some of these will be knockoffs, some Android devices, some this or that or the other thing, and of course all of them are going up against the iPad and will likely measure their specs against it and not each other.

The iPod A-Box Speaker

Thodio’s new A-BOX integrates a high quality speaker into a ’50s style military ammo box—so load up that MP3 player with songs like the theme from the A-Team and the Rolling Stones’ Paint it Black.

Description :

the A-BOX is made of 1mm steel plate fortified from the inside with 6mm trespa and made as inert as possible with vibration dampening material to ensure a ridiculously good sound for piece of metal.

the A-BOX comes in 2 models: the light version with 2 x 25 watts rms amplifier and woven glass fiber speakers (carbon color) this model will cost 350 euros. and the heavy version sporting 2 x 70 watts amplifiers and woven kevlar speakers (the yellow material used in bullet proof vests) this version will be selling for 475 euros.

both versions have indication lights in the bass tube which will indicate the status of the battery with white, orange and red colors. the heavy version however has an extra feat, indication lights behind the speakers which will warn against distortion when driven too loud. this gives a funky disco effect when driven slightly to loud.

The A-Box also features a rechargeable battery and the ability to connect your MP3 player on the outside or the inside of the box.

Cool new flat buttonless keyboards and remote control

Minebea in collaboration with Professor Kazuo Kawasaki has developed Cool Leaf, the next-generation flat surface which can be used for input devices. The company exhibited a keyboard, remote control and a calculator with Cool Leaf, which is flat transparent acrylic board with no gaps between parts and no keys to show.

These devices ( QWERTY, Remote and Calcs ) are flat to the core based on a single board which leaves no spaces in between making it easier to keep the devices clean and dust free, in contrast to the traditional keyboards and remotes that have spaces between buttons which make them prone to dust.

LG serie 1 retro classic tv

The retro-styled LG Serie 1 television doesn’t just look like an old set, it actually uses good old CRT technology.
The set features a 14-inch diagonal screen, complete with rabbit-ear antennae and chrome legs. It even has old-school knobs for changing channels and adjusting volume. However, this set has a modern digital tuner, composite video for your retro video game console, and a wireless remote so it’s not completely antique tech.

The sets are available in the orange color shown above (model 14SR1EB) and a dark brown (model 14SR1DB). At this point the LG Serie 1 Retro Classic TV is currently only available in Korea, where it currently retails for 249,000 KRW (appx. $216 USD).
